The 8TH ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on drug problem

VIENTIANE, August 11th, 2023 – Secretary-General of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA), Datuk Haji Ruji bin Haji Ubi led the Malaysian delegation to attend the 8th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Drug Problem at the Ministry of Public Security, Lao People’s Democratic Republic in Vientiane, Lao PDR.

The meeting organized by the Lao National Commission for Drug Control (LCDC) was held on August 9th to 11th and was attended by ministers from ASEAN member countries for drug issues responsible in term of discussing and implementing ASEAN policies, strategies and action plans in dealing with the drug problem in the region.

The meeting reach a decision and come to an agreement on the ASEAN Joint Statement to be delivered during the 67th Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) in 2024.

Furthermore, the report on the ASEAN Drug Monitoring Network 2022 which is a reference for the current drug situation in the ASEAN region was launched during the event.

Present there with the MOHA, Chief Secretary (CS) are the Director General of NADA, Tuan Sutekno Ahmad Belon, the Director of the Criminal and Narcotics Investigation Department, Royal Malaysian Police, CP Dato’ Sri Mohd Kamarudin Md Din and senior officers as well as officials from MOHA.
