MTMD: Two Consideration Papers Approved by the Sabah State Government

KOTA KINABALU, March 7, 2024 – Two consideration papers, namely the Anti-Drugs SKUAD Campaign Empowerment and Strengthening Drug Prevention Education Programme, were approved through the First Meeting of the State Action Council for Drug Elimination (MTMD) organized by the National Anti-drugs Agency (NADA) at the Main Meeting Room, Menara Kinabalu, Kota Kinabalu on Thursday.

The Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji bin Haji Noor, who chaired the meeting, agreed with the two consideration papers proposed to ensure Sabah is free from drug abuse problems.

The Chief Minister stated that the “Prevention is Better” concept needs to be strengthened as it directly impacts youth at high risk of drug abuse involvement.

He also suggested that each department and agency should support their clients down to the grassroots level to ensure the people of Sabah are aware of the services provided.

The first consideration paper, the Empowerment of the Sabah State Anti-drugs SKUAD Campaign presented by the Chairman of the Sabah State Anti-drugs SKUAD, aims to intensify the membership campaign of the Sabah State Anti-drugs SKUAD.

The second consideration paper approved is the Strengthening Drug Prevention Programme by the Sabah State Education Department, focusing on drug prevention education among school students.

Attending the meeting were the Minister of the Ministry of Welfare and Community Development of Sabah, Datuk James Ratib, Director-General of NADA, Mr. Sutekno Ahmad Belon, and Secretary to the Sabah State Government, Datuk Safar Untong.
