1. Program Intelek Asuhan Rohani (PINTAR 2.0)

Purpose

This program  is intended to increase awareness and establish self-resilience amongst level 2 primary school students (aged 10 to 12 years) who have been identified as being at risk of becoming involved in drug abuse.

Goals

  • To protect students from becoming involved in the use and abuse of drugs;
  • To delay the addiction process amongst students who have been detected/identified as starting to become involved;
  • To carry out intervention on students who are involved, so that they are free from drugs

Objectives

  • To inform participants of the effects and dangers of substance abuse
  • To build life skills and resilience to prevent involvement in substance abuse
  • To enable students to put into practice the knowledge and skills learnt

Implementation

  • Implemented since 1998
  • Taken over by the Ministry of Education in 2009-2015 under the name PROSIDAR (Zero Drug Programme in Primary School)
  • Carried out in the form of a camp (4 days 3 nights)
  • Involves 50 students who have been identified to be at risk in each district

2. Sayangi Hidup Elak Derita Selamanya (SHIELDS)

Purpose

This programme is intended to increase awareness and build the self-resilience of students (aged between 13 and 18 years) who have been identified as being at risk of drug abuse.

Goals

  • To curb students who have a drug problem from being involved in drug abuse
  • To ensure that students who are at risk do not become involved in drug abuse.

Objectives

  • To identify students who are involved in drug abuse
  • To conduct intervention on students who are involved in drug abuse
  • To increase awareness as well as knowledge of the dangers of drugs and their effects
  • To cultivate a good attitude and practise a healthy lifestyle
  • To strengthen the capacity and commitment of the school and families in guiding students to overcome drug-related problems

3. Tomorrow’s Leaders

Purpose

This programme is intended to increase awareness within the institution of higher education communities of the dangers of drugs and the importance of preventive efforts, so that they will take on the responsibility and equip themselves in the context of drug prevention.

Goals

To ensure the students and institution of higher education communities have the knowledge, awareness and skills in connection with a healthy drug-free lifestyle, leading to drug-free campuses

Objectives

  • To provide knowledge, understanding, awareness and skills relating to drug prevention education
  • To help students who are involved to become free of drugs through intervention and effective programmes
  • To involve the institution of higher education community, especially the Student Affairs Department, in drug prevention programmes
  • To mobilise students of institutions of higher education as proactive and competent members of Friends against Drugs

Implementation

  • First implemented in 2011
  • Implementation in the form of seminars/talks/forums (1 day)
  • Involves students of institutions of higher education

Impact of Implementation

  • Students of institutions of higher education obtain knowledge, understanding, awareness and skills in connection with drug prevention education
  • Students who are involved with drugs are able to receive intervention and effective programmes
  • The institution of higher education communities, especially the Student Affairs Department, will be more caring and responsible in managing current drug problems on campus.
  • Members of the NADA SKUAD in institutions of higher education will be active in drug prevention programmes.
