Road users must put surrounding safety first

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 August 2022 – The Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness Special Operation was started by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the National Anti-Drugs Agency (NADA) at the Computerized Vehicle Inspection Center (Puspakom) in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur.

In addition to making sure that no drivers are abusing drugs, the operation’s goal is to evaluate and confirm that the level of technical maintenance of vehicles can achieve high safety guarantees for the safety of all road users.

In collaboration with the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), NADA also consistently educates drivers about drug abuse through social media platforms and the Variable Messaging System (VMS) installed along the highway.

44 NADA members, including JPJ, participated in the operation that JPJ Director General Dato’ Zailani Hashim was present for. Drivers’ urine samples were also checked, along with driver’s licences and vehicle licences.

Three drivers were detained after testing positive for drugs as a result of the operation’s inspection, which led to the issuance of 158 notices against 140 vehicles for various violations.

Also present were the Deputy Director General (Planning and Operations) of JPJ, Aedy Fadly Ramli; NADA Assistant Director (Operations), Muhammad Farid Mohd Zaki; Assistant Director (Enforcement) of NADA Kuala Lumpur, Mohamad Hanif Omar.
