JPU passed the updated amendment proposal (number 1, 2004)

KAJANG, May 15, 2023 – The Law Enforcement Action Committee (JPU) meeting 1st task for 2023 approved on the proposed amendment and the updated Directive Number 1, 2004, which is the Coordinating Mechanism for the Implementation of the National Drugs Prevention Policy.

The JPU meeting discussed many agenda and took note on the latest developments status of actions that need to be taken seriously by relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies based on previous JPU meetings including the Latest Status Report Bill (RUU) on Drug and Substance Abuse (Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation) by NADA; Progress Report of the Legal Technical Committee on Kratom/Ketum crops by the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) and progress report of the Technical Committee on Scientific and Commercial Studies on Kratom/Ketum crops by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS).

The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Home Affairs, YB Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and took place at the National Anti-Drugs Agency (NADA) Headquarters here today.

Saifuddin emphasized to the Ministries, Departments and Agencies we should work hand in hand to combat the problem of drug abuse.

He hoped that the members of the JPU Meeting consisting of various Ministries, Departments and Agencies could work together to formulate and enact implementation strategies to overcome the issues and problems identified related to law enforcement on drug in Malaysia.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, YB Datuk Seri Dr. Shamsul Anuar Nasarah and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Laws and Institutional Reform), YB Tuan Ramkarpal Singh Karpal Singh, Director General of NADA, Tuan Sutekno Ahmad Belon; NADA Deputy Director General (Management), Mrs Chan Hong Jin and NADA Deputy Director General (Operations), Dato’ Dr Muhamad Sade Mohamad Amin and heads of related departments.
