PASIR MAS, 10 September 2022 – The public is advised not to ‘keep’ any drug related issue at home, instead channel it directly to the authorities, mainly the National Anti-Drug Agency (NADA). Director General of NADA, Tuan Sutekno Ahmad Belon said, such actions will not solve the drug issue, and may cause prolong severe effect.

“There were times, individuals who take the silent approach and avoid reporting drug addiction cases to the proper authorities such as NADA or the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) directly.

“This behaviour makes it difficult for us to take proper strategic action. Therefore, the public needs to take an initiative and report cases of drug usage at home or within their community to proper authorities such as NADA, PDRM or the community leaders. During the inauguration of the Cakna Rakyat 2022 DUN Chetok program here on Saturday,” he said.

In addition, Tuan Sutekno said, NADA objective is not to arrest or put those who are addicted to drugs into prison, but rather to help with treatment and recovery.

“NADA is not like it used to be, even the treatment and rehabilitation methods provided by NADA are a more suitable on treating them rather than addiction based method on the NADA i-Rehabilitate Model that includes nine components which are religion and spirituality, guidance and counselling, psychoeducation and community integration.

“The problem now is due to individuals that are ashamed to send their children to PUSPEN NADA, where its mainly focus on rehabilitation process to make them functions as normal people in society.

“Therefore, I advise we as human do not take the approach of hating them, but instead give them support towards recovery so that they do not become addicts in the future,” he said.

He added, the public needs to know that those who are affected with drug addiction can be treated with a variety of methods, especially those provided by NADA through the Institutional Treatment and Rehabilitation Program (RPDI) or the Community Treatment and Rehabilitation Program (RPDK).

Also present during the program were Chetok State Legislative Assembly Member(ADUN), YB Zuraidin Abdullah, Chetok District officials, Mohd Zuari Hamzah, NADA Rehabilitation Medical Treatment Division Director, Siti Mariam Mursidan, Enforcement and Safety Division Director, Azmi Mustafa and Kelantan NADA Director, Rahayu Ahmad.
